GHOST is located just 18km west of Cochrane on the 1A Highway, 25 minutes from Calgary city limits. The lake is approximately 10km long and 1.5km wide with an average depth of 60-90ft. Paddle up the North end of the lake to the Ghost River.
The lakes are 2.4 kilometres from the town of Banff, and easily accessible by walking, cycling, or driving. From Banff or the Trans-Canada highway, access Mt Norquay road. From Mt Norquay road, leaving the town of Banff, turn left onto Vermilion Lakes Road, which will take you alongside all three lakes.
Access Vermillion lakes via Echo Creek, putting in on the Bow River near the Banff Canoe club and then paddling through Echo Creek to Vermillion lakes.
- Head towards Lake Minnewanka on the Range Rd 115B.
- Turn right onto Lake Minnwewanka Secenic Dr.
- Once on Lake Minnewanka Scenic Drive, follow the road for 5km and Two Jack Lake will be on your right hand side.
- Head towards Lake Minnewanka on the Range Rd 115B.
- Turn right onto Lake Minnwewanka Secenic Dr.
- Follow this road and take the first right, Johnson Lake Rd.
- Follow this road to the parking lot.

From the Trans-Canada Highway, head westbound passing Lake Louise. Continue 6.0km from the Lake Louise exit onto the Icefields Parkway (93N) and to Herbert Lake parking lot. The turn is on your left and comes up quickly after the Icefields Parkway entrance.
